Birthday Poem
T'was the Night
Author: Nathan R. Miller
T'was the night before my 13th birthday Hoping for a guitar I dearly pray I wished for a fun day before I go to sleep I hoped I wouldn't get anything really cheap I thought about the next day before I went to bed After that was done, I threw my covers overhead I didn't sleep because of what I thought I'd get A game, a stereo, maybe even a pet! I awoke in the morning at the crack of dawn Then I found my dreams of the past were gone For near the door, on its glorious stand Was a guitar, it's wood shiny and grand My brother ran in 'did you see what you got?' I did. 'is it that guitar you bought?' He stared at me with a humongous sigh. Jeez Nate! You know it's a sin to spy! After I got dressed I went to go eat Come on son, lets go to IHOP, my treat! We got in the care to drive the way there My pancakes were good, but my mom's had hair And when we got home, we all had a blast It seems that the morning just went way too fast In what felt like a minutes was time for lunch What my presents were? I had but a hunch I went in my room and play with my guitar I started jamming like a big rock star I hoped it would pass time so presents would come It did not work, and my hands got all numb For dinner we had hamburgers and hot dogs It turned out Stephen and Bob are food hogs! For dessert we had white cake and chocolate ice cream It was so good; to me it felt like a dream Now finally it was my present time! I felt so special, I thought I was prime I hear a bark and see a cage all alone I heard a cute little puppy, now my very own.
